| With The Seasons
as our “theme” the featured work, of course, will be Vivaldi’s
Four Seasons using the excellent new edition by Noetzel. It’s an
ambitious undertaking and even if we don’t get through the entire
work we’ll at least cover selected movements from each season. Other
music to be explored will be 16th century composer Claude le Jeune’s
work Revecy venire du printans, Jiri Laburda’s evocative
Prazdniny na vsi, 1998 – which depicts summer in the Czech
countryside. For autumn there is the classic American composition by
Nancy Webster, Harvest Suite, 1958 and for winter we’ll play
Mozart’s The Sleighride and Corelli’s Concerto Grosso
Op 6,#8 Concerto fatto per la notte di Natale.
Mark Tostrup, (director of the Tai Chi Center
in Saratoga Springs,NY) will introduce you to the Chinese art of
Chi Kung – physical discipline utilizing deliberate movement,
breathing, concentration & visualization . Chi meaning ‘breath ‘ and
‘energy’ refers to the vital role breathing plays in transmitting
the atmospheric energy of air into the human body while Kung refers
to mastery. The human body reacts to the changing seasons of the
year with its natural rise and fall of energy. From ancient
teachings, Mark will instruct us how to maximize good health through
each season.
Deep breathing (very important to any wind
player) continues with a Capped Reed Class. Mellow out in a
Basically Bass Class (great basses & contras needed). Explore
beautiful new arrangements of music from the “Classical Era”and if
time permits we’ll ‘Swing’ a little too. The Faculty Concert is
Sunday evening at 8 pm in the Warren Room and is open to the general
public. It all starts on Friday with “yours truly” leading all of
you in a Recorder Orchestra rehearsal. Looking forward to
playing music with you soon!
Richie &
Elaine

participants is a strong intermediate. You must be: comfortable with

Soprano players must play tenor, alto players must play alto up 8va
and bass or tenor. Two weeks before the workshop we will send the
large ensemble music out to participants.

a group dinner so we can get to know each other better. The cost is
$25 (above tuition) and participation is voluntary.
