Made in Germany, MOECK is by far the most popular brand in
wood recorders. Because we are professional performers and teachers, we know that there is
variation among wood recorders, so we personally select only the best, checking
each for tuning, attack and tone quality. Then we make any tuning corrections necessary
(on recorders over $75) before presenting it to you for your final inspection. There is
more to choosing a fine wood than just price. The wood
recorders (except for those made of Maple or Sycamore) come with a maintenance kit. (Oil,
brushes, care instructions etc.)
The school line recorders are: Flauto 1, Flauto 1 Plus, School and World
For the young player - an easy-care, simple design. Made of wood, plastic or a
combination
Flauto Rondo - an inexpensive but quality ensemble recorder made of
Maple. The Rondo line now has an elegant baroque design with
exceptionally resonant low notes & easy speaking high notes.
Rottenburgh - designed by Von Huene and fashioned after
recorders by Jean Hyacinth Joseph Rottenburgh (1672-1756) in the Brussels Collection. By
far the most popular and widely played Baroque style recorder. All have a curved windway.
Hotteterre - A tenor with a large warm tone in all
registers. It is suited to solo playing with a range of 2 1/2 octaves, giving the player
access to the Baroque flute repertoire and making it useful for contemporary music. Two
historical instruments were used as models both from the house of Hotteterre. One is in
the Musee de la Musique in Paris, the other in the Bruggen Collection. The Hotteterres, a
large family of musicians and instrument makers, made great strides in improving the
design of recorders, oboes, and transverse flutes.
Steenbergen - designed by Guido Klemish after the
original by Jan Steenbergen (1675-1728) in the Frans Bruggen Collection, Amsterdam. The
very narrow windway provides greater control of dynamics and pitch. It has a bright
Baroque sound rich in overtones. Available a=440 or a-415.
Stanseby - reconstructed by Ralf Ehlert after Thomas
Stanesby, Sr. (1668-1734, London) the original instrument is in the Frans Bruggen
Collection. A Baroque recorder with a big rich tone in the bottom register. Available as
a=440 or a=415
Kynseker - designed after an instrument by H. F. Kynseker
(1636-1686, Nuremberg) The original is in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. A Renaissance
recorder with a range of more than two octaves. Similar to the "handfluit" by
Jacob van Eyck.
Denner - Jacob Denner, Nuremberg 1681-1735 Like his
father, Jacob Denner was well-known for the excellent quality of his instruments far
beyond the borders of his home country. Exquisite examples of Denner originals are kept in
various museums and private collections. This Denner is modeled after an instrument in
Copenhagen. According to many it is the best preserved of Denner's instruments. The Denner
speaks clearly and effortlessly and the tone color is balanced in all registers. This
agile instrument is most reliable in all registers and is particularly suitable for
virtusoso music such as the works of Georg Philipp Telemann.
Breukink Slide-Recorder is built after the pattern of
the so-called Ganassi recorders with a very wide bore and large finer holes. The
remarkable feature of this instrument is its strong tone and extended compass. The special
"Slide" device expands the dynamic range. This combined with special fingerings
allow one to achieve a variety of dynamics and colors. It is particularly suitable for
contemporary music; as well as, non-western music. One can play quarter tones, vibrati,
tremoli or sudden dynamic changes with great subtlety.
