ED11468 Bonsor, Brian ENJOY THE RECORDER, Treble Tutor, Book 1/ A comprehensive method for group, individual and self-learning. "The best way to learn any instrument is to have lessons from a good, experienced teacher… This series of books sets out to help learners of all ages in all three situations… Experienced teachers…will find exercises and fine tunes a-plenty to support their own method at each stage. The less experienced will benefit from many valuable teaching hints culled from long experience and may rely on the books to lead to a sound playing technique and a mastery of simple notation… I can only wish that all who use these books will derive as much pleasure and musical satisfaction and gain as many lasting and valued friendships as I have through this most subtle, delightful and sociable of instruments." Brian Bonsor The book has excellent diagrams of fingers, hands, sitting position and the recorder itself. From Making the First Sound on, there is much helpful writing from this teacher. Notes introduced in Bk. 1 are: E,D,C,F',G',A, G,B,A',F#,F,Bb,Eb. A great deal of time is given to the new note, rhythm, articulation etc. that is introduced. ED12229 Bonsor, Brian From DESCANT to TREBLE Book 1 (From Soprano to Alto)/ A comprehensive method for group, individual, and self-instruction. "This book aims to help proficient soprano players to transfer to alto. It teaches no rudiments… assuming that such information has already been acquired. The treble (alto), the true solo recorder, is a rich and satisfying instrument with an extensive repertoire of fine music… Whether you play as soloist, as member of a consort or in a larger ensemble I am certain you will gain great satisfaction from your treble (alto) and I wish you many, many hours of pleasure." Brian Bonsor The book contains a brief introduction. The first notes C,D,E,F',G' are introduced simultaneously, then the pacing slows with exercises, tunes & duets as the F scale is introduced to high D. Flats & Sharps used are Ab/G#, Ab',Eb/D#, Bb',Eb'. All exercises are to be practiced with various rhythmic & articulation patterns, the music is mostly folk with Renaissance and Baroque tunes. ED12259 Bonsor, Brian From DESCANT to TREBLE Book 2 (From Soprano to Alto)/ This book teaches the remaining notes of the alto's normal range (high G). ED12249 Bonsor, Brian From DESCANT to TREBLE Accompaniments (Books 1 & 2)/ "Totally unaccompanied practice can lead to overblowing and faulty intonation and it is wise, from the earliest stages, to seek every opportunity to play against a affixed pitch known to be correct (don't automatically trust your piano!) so that appropriate breath pressures and tuning techniques become instinctive. To this end, here are 146 (mainly simple) accompaniments to the melodies in Parts 1 & 2 best suited for use as solos. They range from very easy folk-song settings to excerpts from the standard repertoire and apart from their primary use for teaching purposes and domestic music-making, should prove a valuable source of material for concert, festival and examination use. But for whatever purpose they are used, I hope they will encourage soloist and accompanist to look further afield and explore the riches of the treble recorder's repertoire from which, I am certain, they will gain lasting pleasure and satisfaction." Brian Bonsor. 143 pages with Index of Tunes at back of book

EM2038 Monkemeyer METHOD FOR PLAYING ALTO RECORDER, Vol. I / (German text) What is interesting about this alto method is that it has the player learn to read alto 8va and loco at the same time from the very first note. Also, from the introduction of the first note each exercise is to be played with four different articulations: staccato, legato-staccato, portato and legato. The book does move quickly with several notes introduced at a time; however, most accidentals and more difficult fingerings are introduced one at a time with ample exercises and music. Throughout the book there are a nice selection of duet samplings by Telemann, Loeillet, Croft, Marcello, Bach, Barsanti, Pepusch, Finger, Paisible etc. Rhythm is not discussed so either a teacher is need or a theory book. Finger diagrams go all the way to high C (most methods only show fingerings to high G). Trill & Fingering Charts included in back of book.
